Information About the Department

Department of Animation began its education in 1990 and the department is the first and the only educational institution on animation in Turkey. The Department was founded in order to supply the demand for animation artists in the visual communication sector. By the developments of the new computer technologies, the art of animation is transformed into computerized production process and expanded its visual vocabularies. The art of animation is indeed by far the most free ranging among all branches of art, developing areas of vision and experience. Today, the most important development for the animation artist is to find himself in a place as ??a profession?? in the rapidly changing community. Animation department not only gives the education but also undertakes the responsibility of upholding the social and economic organizations in the animation sector. At the end of four years of animation education, students learn film language, film, video, animation and multimedia techniques.The department aims to prepare students as artists capable in both conceptual and technical areas of art of animation. Graduates can be researchers in the area and work in video, animation, multimedia companies, advertising agencies and television sectors.

PURPOSE

This information package describes the departmental activities and courses offered by the DEPARTMENT OF ANIMATION in Anadolu University in order to help the prospective ERASMUS student to prepare his/her study period in this institution.

PROGRAMS OFFERED

The department offers Bachelor of Animation (BA), Doctorate of Animation (PhD) programs . The degrees from postgraduate programs are awarded by the Graduate School of Social Sciences Institute. For Ph.D. program, the university and department announce their requirements for selecting students. Certain exams are applied to the applicants before they can be placed to Ph.D. program.

B.A. (Bachelor of Animation)
For B.A., students are selected by special exams (drawing, imaginary etc..). About 20 students are admitted to the department each year. The duration of the programme is English Preparatory year and 4 years of animation classes. Students must pass all the courses and obtain a minimum GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.00 before they can graduate. The official language of instruction is Turkish. Students who fail to pass the English Proficiency Exam must attend a one-year English preparatory school before taking the department courses. All B.A. students are required to perform summer practice as a part of graduation requirements. They must complete a summer practice of at least 72 workdays. Report prepared at the end of the summer practice should reflect both the experience and the knowledge gained .

M.S. (Master of Animation)
It is not open for application this year.

Ph.D. (Doctorate of Animation)
The Doctorate degree requires course work, research and application. The students will conduct original research and prepare a dissertation, then make an oral defense of their completed research. Students require about four years beyond the Master?s degree to complete a Ph.D. program.

FACILITIES

Computer Laboratory
Students may use the computer lab facilities of the faculty. All computers in the computer labs have internet connection and a number of software applications are available related to their studies. In addition we have 2 more computer labs for animation students in order to use in their animation projects using 3D Max and MAYA .

Line - Test Room
The Department of Animation has the following properties. The students have access to the equipments for their course, projects and research activities. The department has 2 line-test systems for use and also an editing table for the projects of the students.

Animation Studios
Animation Department has 2 animation, for the classical animation lessons and more than 60 students can use them at the same time.

Library
The main library of the university is also useful for the animation department students.
